The Studio+Salon Residency

A program for artists who value reflection, depth, and intentional making.

The Studio+Salon Residency is an independent initiative and virtual program created to support visual artists who value slowness, inquiry, and sustained creative attention. Rooted in a contemplative ethos, the program combines focused studio visits with thoughtful conversation, inviting residents to explore the deep intersections of making and meaning. It offers a space for connection, discussion, and a culture of co-residency, grounded in curiosity, humanism, and a shared commitment to artistic practice.

Residency Overview and Structure

Inviting painters with an active studio practice and a desire to connect with serious peers.

The Studio+Salon Residency is a virtual space for painters to come together across distance to share work, sharpen ideas, and engage in dialogue about contemporary practice.

Structured as a hybrid between a studio residency and a salon, the program is designed for artists working in or around painting, across traditional and expanded approaches, who are eager to reflect on their work,  and build meaningful peer connection.

Program Components:

  • Rotating studio visits (including peer critiques and artist talks)
  • Biweekly salon sessions featuring shared readings on art, aesthetics, and critical theory
  • A small, committed cohort of 6–8 painters invested in process-based, idea-driven conversation

Eligibility

  • Painters (in any medium) with an active studio practice*
  • Participation in at least one prior exhibition
  • Interest in idea-centered dialogue with other artists
  • Philosophical, conceptual, or cross-disciplinary approaches to painting are welcome

The Studio+Salon Residency prioritizes creating an inclusive and supportive space for artists of all identities. BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ painters are encouraged to apply. We believe that critical discourse is most vital when shaped by diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

From the Studio

The Studio+Salon Residency was created as an extension of studio life. It is a quiet, intentional space for artists to connect and deepen engagement with the making process. It reflects a belief in direct experience and contemplation as a core creative position and a continually renewing source of inspiration. Neither institutional nor informal, the residency exists in the space between: structured yet spacious, and always anchored in shared curiosity.
